I admit it, I thought I would never bake. Mostly because I am not the most patient person in the world and baking mean patience. However, this year has made me realize that sometimes the best things come to those who wait. So I hope you enjoy this side of our little team, trying something new to bring some joy into the world.
Several of our Instagram followers have reached out to see if they could get the recipes for the many bakes we post about. So upon request, we will most definitely post them for you here. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do. We make many batches of whatever comes to mind and share with our friends and family. We would love to hear what you think we should try next so feel free to drop a line. Green Chile Cheese Bread Ingredients: 7 cups of flour

It was time to start planning Rocky's senior photo session for her senior year. Her mom and I had grandiose ideas of where we take pictures, colors, themes of course the props. I was envisioning the colorful background of the bosque, train tracks and balloons. Little did I know that Rocky was going to throw us all for a loop a few days before our session and chose the streets of our Downtown instead.
Due to recent damage in the area, many store fronts off of Central and the surrounding streets boarded up their windows. Local artists decided to take this opportunity to start a mural movement, which has been going strong in the area since early spring of 2020. I will be honest, I had only been in the area a few times and had not paid much attention to the artwork. To get an idea of what and where we would be shooting, we ventured out the evening before to get our footing about us and to test the lighting. As soon as Mike came out from under the overpass of I-25, I could see one of many murals and that continued as we made our way to Central and 5th. The colors, the vision, the representation. It was so beautiful that is actually took my breath away. I was attempting to take notes with my phone and became so overwhelmed with my surroundings that I couldn't get my act together. I knew the next day was going to magical and a new challenge to give homage to the surroundings. I think we were all full of nerves the next day. Rocky as the center of attention, her parents wanting to capture all of her wonderful spirit and our team because how to try to capture something like this? A few nervous laughs, a little coaching about relaxing that amazing smile of hers and off we went. The colors, no matter what the palette was, were vibrant. The messages were strong, even if there were not words incorporated. The best part was watching how Rocky reacted to different art as we went through the shoot. She took each scene in first to make sure they spoke to her and did quietly voice her opinion when a mural did or did not speak to her. Our last stop was the Wave Salon and a tribute mural to the late Jennifer Riordan. The beautiful wings invoked a beautiful power that Rocky quietly instills as well. We couldn't have chosen a better piece of art to capture all that this young lady has to offer the world. I look forward to many more sessions to end this year but this special one reminded me of how much beauty is in the world despite all the obstacles of 2020. Happy Senior Year to all the graduates of 2021! Hello EGomez Photography followers!
I know you are all thinking, Erin...seriously....it's been a long while. And the truth is, it has. It has been more than a while. It's actually been over a year and counting. So here is the truth. Inspiration was not coming....at all. And artists need inspiration to keep their craft going. And then COVID happened and we all had to take a breath. For me that was just what I needed, a long breath. And then in the past couple of weeks inspiration struck. Hard, fast like a lighting bolt and so much needed. Creative brains don't last long without creative thoughts and I honestly felt like I was starting to drown a little bit. So the call came for a 1st birthday photoshoot, a few headshots and a senior photos and I was back in the game. The 1st birthday shoot was at one of my favorite places in the Bosque and I was transported back to when I breathed the beauty that surrounded me. So that sparked a whole lot of thinking. Thinking, brainstorming, crazy dreams, daydreaming...all of it. And then today it all came together. I look forward to sharing some new content with you all along with snapshots from a life here in New Mexico. Hopefully you all will share some windows from your beautiful homes as well. Until then- Adios! Our followers love the photos and the small captions describing our encounters with our clients. I love viewing other photographers work and often wonder the details of their sessions with their clients. So we have decided to start a new blog series to feature our amazing clients and invite you to see what our journey is each time. We will introduce you to each couple, family, person or team as we design what each session is going to look like, the details as we get closer to the date and small gallery of the big day. A little love from our family to yours!
I am not always on the photographer side of the camera lens, I am also a consumer who seeks out photography services. Over the years I have used those experiences to tailor my business approach to ensure the things I found important to me transferred to my clients as well. One of the biggest frustrations that I had as a client was not being involved in the planning of my own shoot. I admit I have done shoots with some of the bigger commercial photography studios that charged an arm and a leg, but also left me feeling like I was just another sheep being herded through the studio. So it left me with the question- why are they not asking me what I was hoping to gain from this experience.
Because of this question, I thought it was important to stress the point that as a client you should have a very prominent voice in the creative process of preparing for your photography adventure. No matter what photographer or studio you choose to work with, please (and I cannot stress this enough) bring your ideas, your desires, your questions, your style and your personality to the table. Just as a photographer can choose to take you on as a client, you should be doing the same. Think of it as an interview. An interview in which you gain some insight of the person you are hiring, a person who you should be compatible with to capture some very important images for you. I am not always successful in scheduling a sit down appointment with all of my clients to discuss the details but I make sure that we at least have communication via email, text or phone calls so that I feel prepared to capture what is important to them. I want to know what is important to their family, what they love to do, what makes them unique and any concerns they may have so that I can directly address that ahead of time. How are you supposed to do the best job possible if you do not research ahead of time? Just because you have a camera, you simply cannot say that you are prepared for any job without putting in the time to ask the important questions because in the end it is not all about the photographer's "artistic view". It's about consumer. Our job is to help capture a moment that shows the best of you. I am always shocked when I sit down with a new client and ask the question "what are you hoping to accomplish from your shoot?". They often don't know how to answer that question so I want to bring some awareness to this. Before you meet with your photographer ask yourself that question. What important details of you or your family are you hoping to capture? Are there things that your photographer should know about your family? Is there a spot in your town that has some important meaning to you that you would like as a possible option for your session? Is it important to you to have a certain type of environment to shoot in? Did you see something online that you really liked and would like to use as a jumping point for your shoot? These questions are just examples of what you should be discussing with your photographer and you should not be shy to talk about them. A photography session should always leave you feeling like you captured memories that you can look back upon and smile. A photographer should always leave a session excited to show you what they captured. In order to accomplish this remember, it is a partnership not just a service. It is a magical, but truly frightening thing that happens to a photographer when they are about to present their work to a client. To be honest these feelings start the second I open my images to begin editing. Once the process is finished, my creative brain seizes up and my over critical "demon on my shoulder" takes over. "Will they like them?" "Did I even capture all the ideas they had or did I just let my own vision take over?" "What if I think that one shot was amazing and all they see are all their imperfections?" I guess it's the artist's nature to be self critical of their work, but I also think it's the thing that keeps me personally humble. It's the feeling that makes that drive magical when I am going to meet up with any client to show them how all of our combined efforts paid off. Deep breath, open up their photo portfolio and say a silent prayer as the first image loads. And there it is.....that first sigh or the mumbled "oh!" or "wow, that is just what I pictured". That moment still gets me in the throat, a prick of happiness mixed with some sort of raw emotion that almost brings to me to tears. That moment comes because I know that I did what I love to do; I captured a moment just for them, one that they will remember as long as those images last in their homes. And that is all that I ever wanted. To make a memory last in a beautiful form.
